Flu Vaccination Season: What You Need to Know

Flu season is here. Here's who should get vaccinated, when, and how to book in with our nurses.

Influenza vaccination is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and the people around you during the cooler months. At Cringila General Medical Practice, our nurses run vaccination clinics throughout the flu season and can usually fit you in on the same day.

The vaccine is particularly recommended for children aged six months to five years, adults over 65, pregnant women, and anyone with a chronic health condition such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease. Most people can expect mild side effects, if any — a sore arm for a day or two is the most common.

You don't need a special appointment type to get vaccinated. Simply mention it when you book, or ask at reception when you arrive for another visit. Medicare-eligible patients in the recommended groups receive the vaccine at no cost; a small fee applies for other patients.

If you're unsure whether you should be vaccinated this year, our GPs are happy to talk it through at your next visit.
